Main Review While No Far Away (produced by Ed Cash) is the Texas native’s official debut, August is no stranger to the music industry. He has written and produced music for various artists in the past, and opened for pop-artist Ashlee Simpson.
The album opens with the upbeat “You and I,” a song that seems to be about a girl and a guy as August makes no clear reference as to who the “You” in the song is.
Next is “Battle,” one of the few songs on the album I can honestly say I enjoyed. It speaks of the struggle we all face within ourselves. "Life’s a fight of wrong and right/That's tearing me apart/Oh, but what the cross has done/Yeah, the world will try to battle for my heart/But the war is already won..."
Song’s like “Starry Night” and “I’m Gonna Sing” speak of full surrender, freedom, and praise. The autobiographical “7 x 70,” speaks of August’s struggle with forgiveness. Something every human being struggles with.
And finally, the album closes with the light and simple “Canyons.” ("I'm in love with You/These canyons will let echo my voice/Screaming Hallelujah/ Oh, What a beautiful noise...") No doubt my favorite song off the album.
Closing Thoughts Overall; this is a nice little album, positive lyrics, relaxing music, but nothing new or outstanding. It took quite a few listens, but what I now like about the album had to grow on me first.
Best of the album: “Battle,” “Starry Night,” “7 x70,” “I’m Gonna Sing,” and “Canyons.”
