1. "Can't Hide"
This song was born from helplessly watching a close friend fall repeatedly into the same crippling sin. The bluntness of these lyrics is intended to grab the
listeners’ attention and demand an immediate examination of their hearts.
The Bible says that like a dog goes back to his own vomit, so we return to our sin. We are singing about that thorn in our flesh that keeps us from pressing
forward. It encourages our coming back and revisiting those vices even though we are aware of the danger the sin can bring to our lives.
Regardless of where we run or hide, He is always there. The chorus states that we will meet Him sooner or later, and it guides the listener to choose how he
or she will one day stand in front of the Creator of the universe.
I watched you crawl back to your addiction
It's so controlling that it makes you sick
You've got no one to blame but yourself
For all the pain that you inflict
Oh, you've gotta turn from what you've done
To find what you've been hiding from
Chorus:
You can't hide from your Creator
You can't run from your Maker
You'll meet Him sooner or later
You can't hide from your Creator
How long will you keep chasing tomorrow
The false illusion that you'll be ok
Your not to far away from knowing
The choice is yours don't be afraid
Oh, you've gotta turn from what you've done
To find what you've been hiding from
Chorus
2. "Dangerous"
“Dangerous” is a bold song, speaking out against complacency in our Christian lives. Inspired by the book Wild at Heart, we want to share with the world this
message, "If you aren't affecting those around you for Christ, you are not living ‘dangerously’ enough.
This song in its preliminary stages has been a favorite of many, not only for its driving guitar line, but also for its assertive message to Christians. It
challenges listeners to step out of their ideas of what a Christian lifestyle is and to make sure they are truly seeking to impact this world.
Because of its loud message, this song has also been the theme for entire camps, challenging kids to live lives recklessly abandoned to the call of Christ.
I see a world in need out on the wire
I'll take a leap of faith into the fire
I'm going over the edge now
Yeah I'm ready to reach out
Chorus:
I wanna be dangerous
Unashamed to proclaim Your name
I wanna be dangerous
I can't hide or deny what's inside
I wanna be dangerous
So many times I fail to even try
I compromise my faith by standing by
I'm going over the edge now
Yeah I'm ready to reach out
Chorus
My mind is made up and I'm ready
I'm goin over the edge
I'm steppin out on the wire
Come on
Chorus
3. "Love Found Me (Love's Gotta Hold)"
Finally, that “southern feel good rocker” we have all been waiting for.
Josh gave this song life with a catchy guitar riff followed by an infectious melody and “feel good” lyrics that no music lover could resist. This tune one was
of those magical songs in the studio that just felt so great when it was being created, we hated to stop playing it long enough to hit the record button.
We want this song to convey the feeling of finding that missing piece in your life for the first time and not being able to keep it to yourself. We have found
that missing piece in our meaningful relationships with Jesus Christ, and we needed a song that best conveyed that emotion to our listeners.
Back in the day I used to misbehave
Ride around town rockin lemon parade
Livin it up seizin the day
Runnin like the devil till I heard the choir say
Come on, come home
My life is never gonna be the same
Chorus:
Dontcha know that love, love, love's gotta hold on me
Dontcha know that love, love, love's gotta hold on me
And now I live my life a little differently
Since Love found me
No turning back, my life is like an eight track
I can't rewind so I'm making up for lost time
Spreadin love, everywhere I go
Just like the preacher man on my radio
Come on, come home
Dontcha know that love, love, love's gotta hold on me
Dontcha know that love, love, love's gotta hold on me
And now I live my life a little differently
Since Love found me
What I really wanna tell ya today
Is that I'm glad it ended up this way
I had debt that I could never repay
You know loves gotta hold of me
Dontcha know that love, love, love's gotta hold on me
Dontcha know that love, love, love's gotta hold on me
And now I live my life a little differently
Since Love found me
4. "Greed"
With one of the seven deadly sins as its title, “Greed” is not necessarily a “bob your head” pop tune built for AC radio. This song was written as more of an
accountability check for its listeners.
Greed and the love of money are two of the most debilitating forces at work in our world/workplace today. If the end goal of this song or of making this
album is for us to be rich and have enough money to live comfortably in the illusion that we can go on in this world without God, just as Judas did, we have
also fallen to this deadly snare.
Arguably, the most gripping line of the song falls in the bridge where the song states, "All the pennies in your pocket, won't get you through the needle’s
eye, but the one thing that you're needing, money just can't buy." This reminds us that no amount of money or worldly success can buy our way into heaven.
Had it all wanted more so you got you some fast cash to keep you rollin
Credit cards slit your throat now it won't let go
Yeah you've gotta get out before it takes control
It's a big black hole it'll swallow your soul
When greed is all that motivates
You'll hang yourself and seal your fate
Chorus:
And you'll go down swingin from an old tree
Suicide of the worst degree
It'll be too late to get yourself free
Cause you'll be too far down
Was it worth the betrayal that made you bleed?
To get your silver to feed your greed?
Oh it's a deadly sin so don't let it in, don't let it in
For what it's worth everything on the earth's not enough
To keep you going
What you want never need only fuels you're greed
Yeah, you gotta get out before it takes control
It's a big black hole that'll swallow your soul
When greed is all that motivates
You'll hang yourself and seal your fate
And you'll go down swingin from an old tree
Suicide of the worst degree
It'll be too late to get yourself free
Cause you'll be too far down
Was it worth the betrayal that made you bleed?
To get your silver to feed your greed?
Oh it's a deadly sin so don't let it in
All the pennies in your pockets
Won't get you through the needles eye
The one thing that you're needing
Money just can't buy
And you'll go down swingin from an old tree
Suicide of the worst degree
It'll be too late to get yourself free
Cause you'll be too far down
Was it worth the betrayal that made you bleed?
To get your silver to feed your greed?
Oh it's a deadly sin don't let it in, don't let it in
5. "Drifter"
“Drifter” originated with its lyrics. Knowing exactly what we wanted to say, we created the melody that sweeps across the chorus; and all we needed were a
few musical heroics to make it complete.
To put the icing on this one, Sheryl Crow's Peter Stroud accented the song’s atmosphere with some tasteful slide guitar. Also, producer Scotty Wilbanks
(Third Day) appears on this tune with piano and flashy organ accents as the song comes to a jamming fade.
The lyrical foundation for “Drifter” came from the second chapter in Hebrews where we are warned of the danger of drifting away. We all find ourselves
trying to stay on that road where we know we should travel, yet it is so easy to drift away from it. The setting of this song is similar to that of Jesus in the
desert where He was repeatedly tempted by the devil's promises.
The ultimate goal of our traveling through this earth is that we might embrace Christ and find ourselves in His presence at the end of our long journey
through this life.
I used to have a home
A place I started from
A place to call my own
Bright lights and late nights
The devil took me on a midnight ride
Left me out in the desert on my own
Now I feel alone
I need a hand to help me find my way back home
Chorus:
I'm a drifter out on a dead end road
Trying to find my way back home to get to You, oh to get to You
Lord I've been gone for far too long headed to places I don't belong
And I've got to get back home to You
Sometimes I think about the past
The road that I was on
The one that lead me home
I'll walk on another day
I may wonder but I never stray
Cause I found out the hard way sin don't pay
Now I feel alone
I need a hand to help me find my way back home
I'm a drifter out on a dead end road
Trying to find my way back home to get to You, oh to get to You
Lord I've been gone for far too long headed to places I don't belong
And I've got to get back home to You
And when I feel the night is closing in
And I can barely breathe the air
I just remember that I've got a friend
Who really cares
Oh who really cares
I'm a drifter out on a dead end road
Trying to find my way back home to get to You, oh to get to You
Lord I've been gone for far too long headed to places I don't belong
And I've got to get back home to You
6. "Live & Breathe"
This song, much like most of the DecembeRadio tunes, started with a monstrous guitar riff that demanded an attention-getting song be filled in around it.
We went for a dynamic verse, equipped with a funky guitar line and ripping vocals, followed by what we hope is a blistering chorus.
In the same style as “Love Found Me,” this song blasts “feel good” decibels with a blatant message of our joy in worshiping Christ and living and breathing
for His purpose.
In our day-to-day lives that are often clouded by desires of this world, it is very important to hold onto the truth that we are created to worship Him and not
our own desires. He's done so much for us; it is only natural for us to lift this truth up to the top of our lungs--literally.
I found faith in Your eyes
I found a way to be hypnotized
By Your love, all the things You do
You died for me so I'm living for You
Chorus:
I live and breathe for You
There's nothing I wouldn't do
I live to worship You
I'd walk a thousand miles
Oh just to see You smile
I live to worship
I live to worship You
I just feel like I'm alive
My heart is changed
I'm never gonna be the same
I'm gonna raise my hands up to the sky, to the sky
You died for me so I'm living for You
I live and breathe for You
There's nothing I wouldn't do
I live to worship You
I'd walk a thousand miles
Oh just to see You smile
I live to worship You
To worship You
Can't wait to see Your face, shine Your light on me today
Can't wait to see Your face, shine Your light on me
I live and breathe for You
There's nothing I wouldn't do
I live to worship You
I'd walk a thousand miles
Oh just to see you smile
I live to worship
I live to worship You
7. "Alright My Friend"
Our main goal in writing this album is for the listener to be encouraged and to then share the hope they have found through these songs with others.
“Alright My Friend” journeys into the musically progressive side of DecembeRadio fueled by a deep syncopated drum groove with layering sparkly electric
and acoustic guitar accents under a soaring five-part vocal arrangement on the chorus.
Another song containing the theme of accountability, “Alright My Friend” challenges the listener to not only be encouraged, but to also be an
encouragement to others.
All your dreams are fading to nothing fading to nothing
Complacency is killing you slowly taking you over
Is there something I can say?
I pray for you, I pray for you
Chorus:
Are you alright my friend?
Couldn't help but notice that you're all alone
All alone
I'm reaching out my hand
And hoping that one day you will understand
Love will lead you home
Silently, I hear you crying, there's no use in fighting
Promises, that fade like the sunset, with nothing but regret
Is there something I can say?
I pray for you, I pray for you
Are you alright my friend?
Couldn't help but notice that you're all alone
All alone
I'm reaching out my hand
And hoping that one day you will understand
Love will lead you home
Stand up and dry your eyes, do not be ashamed there's better days ahead
Sorrow will pass away theres hope for you and me written in the red
Are you alright my friend?
Couldn't help but notice that you're all alone
All alone
I'm reaching out my hand
And hoping that one day you will understand
Love will lead you home
8. "Razor"
Razor is another song on the album targeting accountability. The Bible says the tongue is a sharp tool used to divide many. This song warns us of the
danger of an unbridled tongue. It comes from the perspective of a person who has been hurt by someone else's hurtful comments.
The bridge of the song brings a message of selflessness and hope stating, "…after all the things you said to me, I pray that you will one day see…." It is our
job to pray for those who hurt us with their words instead of lashing back and continuing the debilitating cycle.
Your words are more than writing on a page
They're in my mind, they haunt me everyday
Your tongue is sharper than a blade
Leave me alone, stop throwing stones
oh, don't ya know
Chorus:
Like a razor you cut me
Deeper than you know
The words you use are poison
They kill me one by one
Slowly inflicting wounds that never heal
Like a razor you cut me
You cut me
Do you, do you even care
To think about the pain I have to bear
Just stop, walk a mile in my shoes
How does it feel to be abused
Oh, don't ya know
Like a razor you cut me
Deeper than you know
The words you use are poison
They kill me one by one
Slowly inflicting wounds that never heal
Like a razor you cut me
You cut me
Deeper than you know
Yeah,
And after all the things you said to me
I pray that you will someday see
Like a razor you cut me
Deeper than you know
The words you use are poison
They kill me one by one
Slowly inflicting wounds that never heal
Like a razor you cut me
You cut me
9. "Table"
“Table” contains a heavy rock groove. It possibly contains the most modern rock energy on the record. The song is lifted off the ground by a pronounced
guitar riff bending over the deep groove laid down by the bass, rhythm guitar and drums.
Besides being a song that we are musically proud of, “Table” also carries a message of self-examination. It states, "…when all we are is laid out on the
table, and you no longer hide from what's inside…"
There are things in our lives that are much easier to run from than to turn and face. The danger in running from our problems is that they do not go away.
They just continue building in our hearts until we one day either let them consume us or turn to God to rescue our hearts.
Go ahead live your life, live your life anyway you please
You'll never find peace of mind never find any sanity
There'll be no one to blame, there'll be no one to shame but you
There'll be no other way you're gonna have to face truth
Chorus:
When all you are is laid out on the table
And you no longer hide the things inside
When everything is stripped away
Will your life be just a waste of time
Or will you be fine
In the blink of an eye everything's gonna fade away
You're growing numb to the pain are the lies driving you insane
There'll be no one to blame, there'll be no one to shame but you
There'll be no other way you're gonna have to face truth
When all you are is laid out on the table
And you no longer hide the things inside
When everything is stripped away
Will your life be just a waste of time
Or will you be fine
When all you are is laid out on the table
And you no longer hide the things inside
When everything is stripped away
Will your life be just a waste
When all you are is laid out on the table
And you no longer hide the things inside
When everything is stripped away
Will your life be just a waste of time
Or will you be fine
10. "Least Of These"
“Least of These” definitely showcases the more serious side of the DecembeRadio repertoire. The song gets its roots in Matthew where the King says, “what
you have done to the least of these you have done to me.”
Daily we have opportunities to help others; and each time we take one of those chances, we are also serving Christ with our actions.
This song proclaims a message of selflessness—a message that would turn this world upside down if we all lived by it. We continually take for granted all the
comforts we share and often look only at what more we can have instead of what more we can give. We are all part of "the least of these" in this life and
have all benefited from Christ's ultimate sacrifice.
Be love to me
Be hope to me
Chorus:
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
Be love, be love
Be grace to me
Be peace to me
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
My heart is crying out
My hands are reaching out
My heart is crying out
My hands are reaching out
Be love, be love to me
Be love
I'm the child without a home
I'm the widow left alone
So be love, be love to me
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
My heart is crying out
My hands are reaching out
My heart is crying out
My hands are reaching out
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
Cause I'm the least of these
I'm the least of these
Be love, be love
11. "Find You Waiting" [Expanded Edition Only]
As featured on ChristianMusicPlanet.com
Sometimes God decides to heal us when we least expect it. As we wrote "Find You Waiting," we realized that's just what He was doing.
Within the last year, almost everyone in the band, including our producer Scotty Wilbanks, has lost someone dear to their heart. We had a chance to meet
Scotty's friend, Chris Odell, before he passed away with cancer. At Chris' funeral, his wife stood over him raising her hands and praising God amidst her
sorrow. When Scotty shared the story of the funeral with us, it struck a chord in our hearts to write a song about how, no matter what current problem we
might be facing, God's love and mercy is always waiting there for us. We realized that holding on to the pain we all face was only keeping us from God's
healing power.
Psalm 139: 7-8 says, "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I make my bed in
the depths, You are there."
Sometimes, God is the last one we turn to when we have struggles. So no matter what fire we're facing or how small we feel in a situation, let's remember
that God is big enough to turn our tears into joy; and if we look, we'll always find Him waiting." -- JOSH REEDY (DECEMBERADIO)
I've heard the angels and I've seen the devil
Fought with the lion, stepped through the fire
I've been in the valley when it was dry
Walked through the desert to the other side
I'm not a preacher and I'm not a hero
My life has never been that kind
But there is one thing that I hold onto
I am yours, and Lord you are mine
Chorus:
And through all these years You have been there
Dried all my tears and answered my prayers
I just want to feel Your presence again
I'm down on my knees in need a friend
And I find You waiting there for me
I've seen a widow cry through her sorrow
And still raise her hands in the midst of it all
And Lord I'm reminded what I was weary
You carried me, yes you carried me
Through all these years You have been there
Dried all my tears and answered my prayers
I just want to feel Your presence again
I'm down on my knees in need of a friend
And I find You waiting there
BRIDGE
In the midst of a struggle (struggle)
There is one thing I know, yes there is (one thing I)
You'll never leave me, You'll never let go
I've heard the angels and I've seen the devil
Fought with the lion, stepped straight through that fire
Oh yeah
Through all these years You have been there
Dried all my tears and answered my prayers
I just want to feel Your presence again
I'm down on my knees in need of a friend
And I find You waiting (waiting)
And I find You waiting there for me
Waiting, I find You waiting there
