Main Review While you may have never heard of Eoghan (pronounced "Owen") Heaslip until recently, he is no stranger to the music scene, in fact he has been around for over eight years now. Releasing four albums in past years, two of which were with Integrity Music (Mercy and Grace in the Wilderness)
Born and raised in Dublin, Ireland, Eoghan discovered the drums at only six years old and continued on that path until he picked up the guitar at twenty years of age. He then moved to Canada where he met and married his wife Becky. And after a couple of years he became the worship leader and music director for the CORE Church (“City Outreach Through Renewal and Evangelism”) in Dublin, Ireland, before moving with his wife and their three daughters to London, where they have been part of the staff team at St Paul’s church in Ealing since January 2007, overseeing worship and prayer.
The six track EP starts off with "Blessing, Honour" a simple yet uplifting "Hallelujah" kind of worship song. ("Hallelujah/Our God Almighty reigns/Hallelujah/Amen..." "God Only Wise," co-written by Brenton Brown and Nick Herbert is a song of surrender and a prayer to God to use His people to "bless this broken world." "Creator King" co written by Hanif Williams is probably the most powerful song on the album, and that isn't saying much. It's a reminder that God is the creator and King of all things, He is mighty and eternal.
Songs like "Blessing, Honour" and "God Only Wise" have more upbeat tones. While songs like "The Way You Father Me" and "Here on Earth" are softer and lighter. All the songs are quite average, there's nothing that really stands out. The lyrics are even a bit cliché' at times, but it's the execution and Eoghan's unique vocals that make the album a nice worship experience!
I've been a fan of Eoghan's for almost 5 years now; he is one of my favorite Worship artists -if not my favorite. My biggest disappointment is that only two songs on the EP are new. The other four are off his previous album "Wonderful Story." If Eoghan was going to just re-release songs I wish he would have chosen a few from "Grace in the Wilderness," now that's a great album!
Closing Thoughts Overall; Unique vocals, simple lyrics and music. This is a nice little Worship EP that's worth checking out. If you're a fan of Brian Doerksen or Martin Smith (Delirious?) then you'll like this. And if you do, then definitely check out his previous work.
