[ Writer's Closing Thoughts ]
May 26, 2008 - Looking back on this review I realized a
few things.  Number one, Kutless is just an all-around
great group and I know that the effort that they will put
forth now and in the future will minister and uplift those
who need to hear a message of hope and love brought in
a vehicle of hard rock guitars and hooking melodies.

The other thing I realized is, my own writing has gotten
better over the years.  Man, is it really me who wrote this?
lol.  I guess that comes by me not being a professional
journalist or writer, huh?

I hope nonetheless you enjoy the album and the review
that was written for it.  This was one that wasn't lost...
Unfortunately... : )
The Review:
“Kutless’ second album ‘Sea of Faces’ is in my opinion one of the best albums of 2004
easily.  When I worked for CHR, “Sea Of Faces” was in heavy rotation and “It’s Like Me”
was right behind it.  I know when I first listened to this album; it was very hard to take it out
of my CD player!  The first song “Not What You See” to me displays a message about the
rebellion against our Creator and how we need to be that slave (or servant) to Christ.  The
only One, who deserves the exaltation, is in fact our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

“All Alone” says a lot in the perspective of someone who is fighting the Lord and chooses
not to accept His will for him or her.  I know I felt alone before coming to know Christ.  Not
long afterwards did I feel filled with the Spirit and not alone as I did before.  God’s way in all
cases was the better way, no matter how much we think it’s not.  It’s that plan He has for
you that you have to follow.  Trust me, it’s better for you to trust in the guidance of God
then to trust in your own guidance.

“Sea Of Faces” has a great message to remember.  Think of the billions of people that
have been born and died throughout the times.  Now, realize that although that’s a lot to
you and I, to the Lord it’s not.  This song reminds us that Lord holds us in high regard, as if
we were the only.  Remember Jesus gave Himself for you, His body was the Bread and His
Blood was the wine.  He reached down into the sea of faces and made Himself known to us.

“Let You In” is another one of those songs that describes our constant need for God.  He’s
there at the door, do you hear Him knocking?  Let Him in and find out what He has in store
for you.  I really liked the driving guitars in this song as well.  Very catchy.

Another great message is that of “Passion”.  It’s those talks of the Crucifixion that upset
me, but I know that in order for me to live, Christ had to die.  It suffers me to know of the
pain He went through for me and how unthankful I am at times.  I can’t watch the “Passion
of the Christ” without feeling guilty and asking myself, “Have I done what I can for the
Kingdom today?”  My answer to that question most of the time is ‘no’.  But I can pray that
God uses me for His purpose.  When I think of the Cross, I think of John 3:16, “For God so
loved the world, that He sent His only begotten Son"... for me, for you.

“Treason” makes a very good point.  Do you realize that once you’re saved and still
continue to sin against God, we’re all guilty of treason?  I guess I never thought of it that
way.  But it’s true.  The guitar track on this song reminds me of the mainstream music I
used to listen to ‘back in the day’.  Lol.  I pray that those groups I loved (like Alice In
Chains, Metallica & others) find Christ sometime in their lives.  There’s one that I fear didn’t
make that choice, and that was Layne Staley of Alice In Chains.  I hope I’m wrong.  Such a
waste of God-given talent.  Oh well, back to the review now…  “All The Words” appears
both on this album and ‘Strong Tower’.  The song has a good meaning.  When I first heard
it, I thought to myself of how much the Words of the Lord mean to me.  His promises to me,
His mercy and grace that he has bestowed on me.  God is good ain't He?

“It’s Like Me”, the album’s last track and perhaps my favorite on the album has a
tremendous message.  Have you ever tried to witness to someone and are having such a
hard time with it?  I feel this way with my father.  I pray that before he dies, that he finds
Christ.  This song deals with the situation of witnessing to someone just before their end.
The only thing you can do is pray that you’re witnessing and personal testimony has
helped add another soul to the Kingdom.  After all, that’s what the Lord put us here for, is
to lead others to Him.  If you’re looking for a good rock album that still carried a meaningful
and truthful message, then ‘Sea Of Faces’ is a good album to start with.”
