| This album is truly a blessing and I sincerely encourage every one to listen to it at least once and hopefully it will mean something to you and touches your life just as it has touched mine. Also, I encourage you to listen to previous Kutless albums for they are very rewarding to listen to. You can check out the other reviews right hear on www.christianmusicreview.org. Colossians 1:16 says that all things were created through Jesus and for Him. This tells me that we are made for Jesus and that everything is going to be alright for we are in His hands. |

| [Additional Review by: Jay Heilman] I have to say that I have been a Kutless fan since the beginning. Well, since I started listening to them back in 2004! One thing I can say about the band, is that I have never had to question their message. Jon Micah is always very forth about his intentions in song-writing. I have often times seen in reviews by other media that the band is too ‘cookie-cutter’ with both it’s lyrics and it’s music. One similarity I think a lot of people focus on with Kutless is their sound, in that they sound like a cloned version of the now broken-up mainstream group, Creed. Number one, I was a huge Creed fan before coming to know Christ, and two, if one actually sat down and listened to an entire Creed record along side a Kutless album, would realize that one song struck similar between the two, and that was the song “Tonight” from their debut record. Other then that, not too much comparison can be made between the two. There is obviously influence there, but not to a point that it needs to be mentioned every time we hear a new Kutless record. Well, I have rambled on about the early Kutless, but I can say that I noticed a lot of differences between Kutless’ last studio record, Hearts of the Innocent and their latest, To Know That You’re Alive. Composing and music structure is something I noticed different right off the bat. There’s nothing wrong with change, in fact I often like to see change. Lyrically, this album is not as forth with it’s message then the past records, but I still think Kutless is great in that they have never tried to hide the fact that they are a Christian band. Musically, I think the album is a bit different then the past efforts. I think this has something to do with the fact that the guitar duo that once was James Mead and Ryan Shrout is no longer, and the musical relationship between Mead and new guitarist, Nick DePartee has begun with the completion of this record. I think the new approach to the music was cool. This album definitely had it’s heavy moments, starting off with the first track, “The Feeling”. “To Know That You’re Alive” was a great track musically as well, starting off with an orchestrated start and progressing into an assault of guitars. Very cool. “Complete” was probably one of my favorite songs off the album. It sounded very ‘MercyMe-ish’, which was cool. True that, Jesus is the One who completes us. Amen? Either way, I loved the new record and I figured if I took on the main review for this one, I would obviously have a biased opinion based on the previous four Kutless reviews that I had written. So, what are you waiting for? Go and pick up To Know That You’re Alive today! |
