Sounds like: Relient K and Hawk Nelson.

The music is very realistic, down to earth, and addresses issues that are really going to
hit home with the junior high and high school crowd especially. These guys are easy to
relate to. “Oh Snap” is a six-song EP that showcases this new talent very well.

Philmont performed at Cornerstone Festival in July 2007, and have been working hard to
get a good start. Group members are originally from North Carolina, but named their
band randomly after a town in New York, saying in a press release they thought
Philmont sounded cool.

The first song on the album, “I Can’t Stand to Fall,” is about tearing down the walls that
are blocking you from Christ. Things like living to please the world or look cool to your
friends is a big wall. This song is a “take off running” hit, and gives listeners a really
good feel for the sound of the group. It’s fast-paced and fun, and gets things started
with a positive message.

“Another Name” is a beautiful song about how in Jesus all things are made new. He will
change your heart, make you new, and give you a new name. You’ll be called His sons
and daughters, no longer slaves. “Breathe in now/ Receive another name/ Breathe in now/
Live without the blame… A life I have forgiven/ So know that you are free.” The Bible
says there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. He will take away the
blame, we don’t have to rely on ourselves. God is on our team!

“Photosynthetic” is a really interesting song. It’s about living on the outside who you say
you are on the inside. Are you living like a follower of Christ all the time or just on
Sundays? Websites like MySpace and Facebook often tell a different story. “You’re
always judged for what you put online,” said lead vocalist Scott Taube in a press release.
“A Christian can kill his credibility with compromising photos, swear words in a blog,
and so on. It’s hard to make that stuff go away.” It’s important to be a good witness, so
that others can see the difference Christ is making in our lives. People need to be able to
see that there is something different, not only in the way that we as Christians live, but in
our hearts and minds and attitudes. Christ changes lives, but you have to let Him.

Closing Thoughts:
Over-all, the message is excellent! The lyrics are very Christ-centered, and the music is
fun and up beat. I highly recommend this CD to all teens and preteens. Definitely add this
one to your birthday wish list. With such an up beat band, the shows promise to be really
fun as well. I’m excited to see how their career progresses and how they grow and
become even more talented with time and experience.
