This was the first time I’ve seen David Crowder*Band live in concert and had fun digging into his
entire catalog of songs prior to attending. My most anticipated songs to see and hear performed in
concert were “No One Like You”, “Everything Glorious” and “O Praise Him”, which are all stand-out
songs of the decade from the Passion Conferences.
If you’ve ever heard the expression you need to see a hockey game in person to experience the true
essence of the event, I would apply the same description regarding David Crowder and his band. I’ve
re-listened to the studio and live versions of the songs from the concert and I love the energy and
audience participation of the live recordings.
David Crowder*Band opened with the Matt Redman classic song “Undignified”, and started off the
fun in style with the great chorus “I will dance I will sing” which really personified the enthusiastic
style of the evening which included 14 songs over the next 65 minutes.
In the next song “No One Like You”, David asked the audience to sing back in unison in response to
him and made us sing again when he reminded us that he wanted “loud, not pretty singing”. We
complied and thankfully I had a water bottle to replenish my vocal cords which I lost after every
song. “Foreverandever, Etc.” was next and I loved the build-up to the whistling part where David had
us whistle along and jump up and down as we sang “and ever and ever and ever and ever…”.
The next set of songs was my favorite part of the evening. There were only 2 slower tempo songs
and the highlight was next with one of the slower songs “Remedy”, the title song the most recent
album. The song has a beautiful chorus and contemplative lyrics praying “You’re the remedy, You’re
in us…let us be the remedy”.
We jumped right into “Here Is Our King” and the Dove Award nominated “Everything Glorious”
which were both great and a blast to sing in unison with the crowd of about 1,000 in the gymnasium
of Red Lion Christian Academy.
Next we sang “Come Thou Font” as a medley with “Amazing Grace” and then transitioned to “The
Glory Of It All”, the only other slow song of the evening. The power of our corporate worship could
be felt as we sang in unison “We will never be the same!”
The most comical moment of the night came next with David changing guitars to his small wireless
“Guitar Hero” remote guitar to introduce the song “…neverending…”
He actually played the guitar throughout the whole song which has the fun “la la la la” chorus. Before
the song he played with the controls and asked his guitarists to imitate “Mario” from “Nintendo” jump
and get coins while playing the “coin” sound.
The fun continued with David’s reminder that he and the band are from Texas and prepared us for the
hoedown to the banjo-led “I Saw The Light” remake of the Hank Williams song. The last songs were
“O Praise Him (All This For A King)” and “Sing Like The Saved sung as a medley with “Make A
Joyful Noise”. After only 14 songs and a little over 1 hour, we were all ready for more. After briefly
leaving the stage, the band came back and ended with “Here I Am To Worship”, another Passion
conference song originally recorded and written by Tim Hughes.
I highly recommend seeing David Crowder*Band any chance you get for a fun night of upbeat praise
and worship and be prepared to jump up and down and “dance like the saved”. You’ll also need plenty
of water for your vocal cords. Great night and great band.
