The Afters debut ‘I Wish We All Could Win’ is a fine
display of what the music ministry should be about.
Exciting from start to end, The Afters keep you on your
toes with some of the best Christian rock tunes of 2005.
Great ministering tools for fans of rock music.
This is a retro review and was written prior to November 2007.
I remember first hearing of The Afters after hearing of them touring with MercyMe in early
2005. It wasn’t until I heard “Beautiful Love” on the radio when I thought to myself, man I
have to get a hold of this CD for review. Well, I have to tell you I wasn’t disappointed. This
album is full of great songs; the first song “Beautiful Love” is a perfect definition of God’s
love. It’s that beautiful love that shows us grace and mercy each and every day. “Until
The World”, may be speaking of the end of times, and how the Lord will be there for us
even unto the end. Jesus says in Matthew 28:20, “… I am with you always, even unto the
end of the world”. It’s always a comfort to know that even in the toughest of times, Jesus
has kept His promise to be with us always, even to the end. The chorus of “Someday”
speaks enough volume for the song. While many will be saved, not all will. It is still the will
of God that everyone will be saved, but that choice is individual. I share the same feeling
as The Afters with this one, I wish we could all win. Just pray for them whom you believe
are not ‘winning’ and God will answer your call.
“Love Lead Me On” is a good example of the guidance we as Christians should have in our
lives. Keeping our faith strong and following God’s commandments is one way to find that
love. It’s that guidance and love that leads us on. Pretty impressive guitar solo on this
track as well. The message of “All That I Am” is great! I remember when I first got saved
and how thankful I was to have that assurance of Salvation. It was then I gave my life to
Christ and vowed to Him to show the same love He had shown to me. Such a beautiful
music track to accompany this song. Ask yourself the question, “Am I showing Christ the
love He so graciously showed me on the cross?” This should be a question you ask
yourself daily. Remember what He said in John 15:16 “You have not chosen Me, but I
have chosen you”. “You” is probably my favorite track on the album. It’s a very pretty
song, and has a positive and meaningful message. Is Christ everything to you? He should
be. Sit back and marvel at the things the Lord has created. The Lord is truly the only
treasure we should seek, He’s our God. (Luke 12:34).
“Love Will Make You Beautiful” kind of reminds me of a John Lennon song. I don’t know
why. The song has an aura about it too. I love the words, such a true statement … “Love
will make you beautiful”. Well said. “Wait” has a message that would make most excited in
eager anticipation for the return of Christ. When this world fades away and we come face
to face with the One who saved us. I have already planned what I will say (if I am able to
speak) when I come face to face with Jesus after he’s done saying (I hope) “Well done my
good and faithful servant”, which is “I couldn’t thank you enough for what you’ve done for
me”. I truthfully can’t wait until that day.
The album closes out with the track “Thank God I’m Not The One”. This song really asked
me the question, “Could you make the same choices and still feel humble knowing you
were going to die?” I don’t know if I could, truthfully. Jesus did say something to His
disciples that makes me feel good though, knowing when He said in John 15:13, “Greater
love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”, that we truly do
have a friend in Jesus. The Afters debut album has great messages and great music, a
great addition to your collection of albums that hold a significant ministering value, as well
as a good listen.
