Main Review INO releases their newest album Catalyst Music Project on Tuesday March 9, 2010. This is unique project. Not your typical collaboration album.
When I first heard of this project, I didn’t know what to think. Partly, because I wasn’t sure what I was going to hear, and also because I didn’t know too much about this particular project. The project started when INO asked for songwriters and worship leaders to submit songs that were already ministering in their towns and churches. This gave it a hometown-feel, letting the local peoples’ voices be heard. I am not sure what kind of numbers they had in mind for entries, but over 750 songs were submitted for this project and only 12 made it onto the album. I don’t know about you but that isn’t a task I would look forward too.
As you listen through the album you will notice many great songs from both local worship leaders and artists you know. The first single for this album was released in January featuring the sounds of Laura Story called “What A Savior”. Laura has really hit the scene big lately and this is just another way for her to minister to others. Another local worship leader turned artist on the album if Fee. Steve Fee is a worship leader from North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, GA. His song “The Beauty of the Cross” is cut number four on the project. This song is the one that stood out the most to me. The “cross” has always intrigued me. This song breaks down what it means for you and me. The chorus of the song says…
“Now we can see the greatness of His glory We can find the mercy like the morning We can know the fullness of His love for us, That’s the beauty of the cross.”
Sometimes we try to overcomplicate God’s word when really it’s just as simple as the words in this song. This song also says that God made a way where we can walk without blame when we call upon His name. I listen to a lot of music and most the time that’s all it is. Then other times the words just grab me and pull me in. This is powerful stuff!
INO says “Catalyst is about leaders. Leaders who have a passion to impact our generation, including leaders in music and the arts. We want to find them and release them. Songs that will become written on the hearts of our generation.”
I know that there are all kinds of music out there especially in the Christian realm, but this is different. When you find yourself wanting something more, something new, this is it. I promise you have never heard these songs before, unless you attend a local church in which a particular song came from. God is ever present throughout this whole project. You will want to turn it up and worship in your vehicle or wherever you may be.
Closing Thoughts This is a great album. It was refreshing to hear some new material. It will be interesting to see if INO continues with this concept. I will be anticipating what they find next time, should they do it again. I thank God for this label. That they have leaders seeking His word. Seeking material and trusting God by taking a chance in a business savvy world to truly bring God’s message to us.
